Senking

Jens Massel aka Senking was born in 1969 in Cologne. 1990: First musically experience as bass player in punk- and indie bands. Playing the bass guitar still is an ongoing process for him. In 1995 he got his hands on a very lo fi sample synthesizer which was able to sample for 5 seconds. This “miniloops” was recorded and arranged on a 4 track mashine with the result of his first electronic tracks on tape. After this he was also hooked to create electronic music and not only playing bass guitar anymore. Although better equipment for electronic music production was bought, the kind of equipment he uses has never been that important to Massel. He likes to change his setup every once in a while to find new ways for him to work so as to not become too repetitive.

When it comes to the music part of his live performances there´s no computer involved. Though there´s computer for the visualisation of his music which he´s giving more attention these days. After all the years with the idea of creating visuals/pictures/images in the listeners heads just by listening to his music, adding now visuals to his live performances is another step. Massels experimental work is a lot about organic dynamic and a certain atmosphere which often reminds of listening to a soundtrack or of being 100 miles under sealevel. In best case scenario both of it. His music is inspired, of course by other musicians, but also by movies and most of all by life and it very special moments itself. Beside composing music also for theatre and dance productions, now days his main focus is on his project “Senking“.?

Grischa Lichtenberg

Grischa Lichtenberger was born in Bielefeld 1983. In 2009 he released his debut EP ~treibgut ununbium on german label Raster-Noton. ~treibgut – a system of references to the river Rhein – operated as a motto for varied expressions: installations, videos, music, painting and drawings. Beginning in 2006, while moving to Düsseldorf, Lichtenberger decided to rethink the artistic process from scratch – it’s ethical legitimization and it’s epistemological backgrounds – all in regard to the concreteness of the biographical situation in its landscape and history.

Since 2008 Grischa Lichtenberger lives in Berlin. With the new “supertitle” andyrchie iv he tries to proceed the idea or revaluating the reference to landscape as “the place we live in”. Lichtenberger’s focus is not only the musical expression, but the process of creating art in general. Always regarding the complexity and difficulties of communication and material referenciality, he seeks to overcome the dominance of functional interpretations, while maintaining an open access to technology and production. The archive of samples and fragments of overcome and discarded technological artefacts and everyday livestock is enabled by an ethical figure, wherein art is to address and regard the other, without economizing or confining them.

Feldermelder
As a young teenager Manuel Oberholzer (aka Feldermelder) made his initial efforts on an Amiga 500. The discipline and focus that was needed to work on trackers still lives on in his creative beats and arrangements. Feldermelder’s influences range from the decomposed structure works of Steve Reich and Stockhausen to more psychadelic music, electronic and anlalog music from the now and before and tomorrow. The diversity of the music that inspires him, finds reflection in his own sonic adventures, forming his ever evolving sound, combining as map and compass to guide his artistic outbursts. His psychadelic live acts, played on a wide range of analog and controlled digital equipement, made him perform in all over the world. His endless research with others musicians made him become even more obscure, allowing him to play all different kinds of venues,. Other Projects like Toronaut, Gibraltar Vacuum, Black Cargoes, Deconstructing Drumboys and FM Grand Trio made him tick all different universes, and and explore new ways of musical expression. Coming to the attention of Spezialmaterial and other labels in early 2002, Feldermelder has stepped up as remixer, re-working Sinner DC, Oy, Mimetic, Scrubber Fox, Mochipet and many others.

diatribes

Diatribes, the Geneva based duo comprising of Cyril Bondi & d’incise and they continue their exploration of simplification and rational rituality, and presents a couple of new pieces tighted together by strict sonic or structural principles. Highly detailed textures, repeated gestures, soft tones, febrile pulses and acoustic hyper-sensibility, pushing one step ahead the ideas they’ve exposed in their previous album “Augustus”.?

The duo, two improvisors working as complementarity since 2004, after a voracious youth exploring free jazz, noise, musique concrête and free improv, and many collaborations with international musicians such as Magda Mayas, Bertrand Gauguet, Robin Hayward, Dominic Lash, Partick Farmer, Derek Shirley and Hannah Marshall, Barry Guy, Keith Rowe, amongst others, has chosen to focus on a rather introverted process of creation. During the past year they have inte! nsely toured across Europe and beyond. (archive here).??Cyril Bondi and d’incise are both very active in the Swiss experimental scene, leading the Insub Meta Orchestra, a very large ensemble, and created in the INSUB. label, netlabel & association (since 2006, as Insubordinations). Their unstoppable energy led them to build a strong network around these activities. They have other bands together, including Queixas (with Abdul Moimême) and a subbass quartet (with Derek Shirley and Dragos Tara), and other occasional collaborations.?Cyril plays solo and with the post-jazz trio Plaistow and d’incise plays solo, works on electro-acoustic set-ups and compositions, and does graphic designs.

diFfuSed beats

diFfuSed beats is a duo comprising of Konrad Bayer (Munich) and Ish S(Delhi) as they engage with sound with both philosophical and de-constructive aesthetics. Their works are synthesized out of sounds, noises and field recordings that were recorded in various locations around the world. They are also performing their material over 6-8 speakers(channels, when available) to give a spatial performance, here the audience is surrounded by speakers as they are usually are seated in the middle to give them an immersive experience of their sounds and music.

diFfuSed beats use a lot of electronic synthesis along with the filed recordings where by re-arranging, re-contextualizing, re-constructing and re-interpreting the sonic material an acoustic topography of the places along with the hidden spaces that constitute the subjective observant self emerges. They try to engage with sound as a philosophical and social reverberant and not just as an aesthetic object. Both sound and electronic music are the main elements in their works and as they pursue it with an expressionist angle in order to reflect on the times we live in.
